it would be very interesting to compare your beautifull and well defined strike witht he one's currently offered. This might give a good idea about the possible production number. At least there are now already more then 5 out there.
It is my understanding that there was a "found" of at least 5 Zimmermanns in the above shown condition - out of a burned out building. The crosses turned up in Stuttgart at the show and were sold. Some had jump rings, some not.
I also have to say that I have some reservations regarding the oaks attached to the Zimmermann at Weitzes site. They do not show the typical signs of a genuine Godet set. I know of some very good fakes around and those differ in the same areas - like the one on Weitze's site.
It appears as though the style of the digits, beading, and shape of the "20" match from these photos. Are you seeing deviation from Harry's cross to the other two? Does anyone have photos of Prosper's old cross that Pieter bought?
Tom, not a deviation really as all look very close...
I wonder however if the 'found' crosses are unfinished as they appear to have ample frosting left on the flanges. The other observation is that they appear 'flatter' in the ribbing than Harry's.
I dont put much effort as you people do into studying KCs since Im not after one and if I were I would enlist your help. Seven years ago Scott Babcock of Traders had some crosses marked this way he brought from Europe. The dates were rather flat and the beading was very similar. It was awhile back so they may have been latvian fakes I just dont remember except they were marked 20 and L52.The ribbons didnt glow but they were easily teased apart, poorly made.
Dave,
I have not got my head around the whole etched frosting Vs painted frosting yet, but my cross shows ample frosting on the beading and in the recesses aroung the numerals and 'eye'. The outer flat part of the frames are highly polished..........Tomorrow, I will chuck it in the fire and see what it comes out like!
