    DKig Opinions?

    Guys,

I'm a Dkig Virgin and bought this off one of our members as a fake. I want to run by the committee though

Studying this, the wreath has been twisted & moved (that alone does not consitute a fake though) to the left slightly but other than that what other details, make this one a fake? The ribbon on the wreath? The writing on the '1941'...

      Hi,

      From what I can see, other pointers imclude;

      - the swas is off-center,
      - the rivets are bizarre,
      - the edges on the reverse look very "soft" (the reverse 3 and 9 0'clock profiling is ABSENT) and
      - the black enamel of the swas looks pockmarked.

The third point is the killer for me - not even 57ers have such poor profile detail.

      Regards

Agree with you on the first two points Mike!

        - the swas is off-center, Yep
        - the rivets are bizarre, could be, but I don't know what bizarre means at this point!
        - the edges on the reverse look very "soft" (the reverse 3 and 9 0'clock profiling is ABSENT) and Have to disagree with you there mate, see attached pic, its looks more out of wear than anything
        - the black enamel of the swas looks pockmarked. - na mate, that's a trick of the light on the photo

Ok bird is back in the cooler ... recreation has been cancelled!

A better pic of the swas to show there are no 'pockmarks'

Well that probably doesn't happen very often!

We should send all the replicas to you and let the bird destroy them

                  Regarding the DKG.
The quality is not there. In particular is the wreath of bad quality. The enamel should be flush with the metal in the swastika. Rivets are a bit large.

                  Cheers.

The wreath is wrong for a zimmerman, klein, or S&L, which given the shape of the banner and wreath, this is an attempt to emulate one of these makers. The date looks like an attempt at a deschler, but is wrong. The swaz looks too small. There is a rough border on the enamel of the swaz. The rays of the sunburst do not line up. The rivets are huge and do not correspond to that of other known makers. Godet has smaller elevated rivets, as do the early deschlers, but the rivets are much smaller and fine. The shape of the pin is an attempt at a S&L, but is wrong for that. The catch looks like those seen on S&Ls and later deschler cupal pieces. The hinge is wrong.

In short, this is not consistent with other wartime original pieces. Those who favor fakes will call this a "variant".

                        Heres one last picture

Thanks very much all for taking the trouble to look at this ... er ... variant. Your feedback has helped my research.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford the real thing one day, without the same comments applying
