DK- Fake or ? Your opinion please.

I'm not well versed on medals and badges but here's a DK I ran across that I think is either fake or messed with? There seems to be some white-paint touchup (and not too neatly) under the swastika. Any comments please.

    Thanks, Vaughn

I do not like that one. IMO not original.

Not genuine wartime in my opinion. The details in the wreath are blurred.

        Cheers.

            Hi Everyone,

            I have a page from
DETLEV NIEMANN; 2004 PRICE GUIDE ORDERS AND DECORATIONS 1871-1945, ITEM # 7.04.10 g3) 1.and the 14 rivet unit is pictured. But Forman's doesn't mention a fourteen rivet DK, only 10 as the largest. I'll try to take some more detailed pictures of my DK for further examination. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. The dealer thinks it's real but will take it back if I can get some info to the contrary.

            Thanks, Vaughn

Here's a closer shot. Slightly soft but the wreath detail does seem lacking. I don't another one (that I KNOW is genuine) to compare it to.

                Hello.
Here are my opinions why i think this is a reproduction.

                - 14 Rivets. I find that a bit extreme.
                - The rivets are a bit crude.
                - The details in the wreath are blurred.
                - The catch at the reverse sits high up, leaving a long part of the needle sticking out.

                Cheers.

Thanks Peter, Paul and Ludwig. I'm sending it back tomorrow. The dealer has agreed.

                  Best,

Why are people all of a sudden interseted in PM's and purchasing the cross, after Vaughn decided to return the cross? If they think it is genuine they should say so here in the thread. Were are all German Cross owners?

                        Cheers.

I think the problem here is that there are very few members that have six rivet deschlers with which to compare with this piece, let alone the very rare ten rivet deschler. The hinge is a little different than the six rivet deschler and sits higher on the plate. There appears to be a double outline of the hinge plate (maybe that has been replaced). The barrel of the hinge looks slightly different as well. The pin is longer than the six rivet deschlers. The rivets look very good. There are a couple of flaws on the wreath that are not on other deschlers, but the shape of the wreath is good. There appears to be a rough surface on the date plate of the wreath. I do not see the paint that is being referred to.

I would hold on to this piece for further discussion and take better detailed photos of the rest of the wreath and take detailed measurements.
