"Round 3" EK 2 ring attachment

Whilst recently examining my 1939 "round 3" EK 2 with a jeweler's loupe I noticed that the small ring attached to the top rim of the cross (i.e. the small ring that the larger ribbon ring passes through) was actually affixed to a "hump" rising up from the center of the top rim. Does anyone else have a "round 3" EK 2 with this feature?

    Hello George,
i had one of those a while ago.
I didn't trust it and mailed some pics to Gordon Williamson for his opinion.
The reply I got satisfied me, this construction is very common on the round 3 crosses.

    Regards,
    Ben

      George,

Every original round 3 I have ever seen has had the suspension ring attached via the small projecting lug on the edge of the arm. Given that every one I have seen so far has been identical (apart from the paint finish-some I've had have been very matt, others semi-gloss eggshell finish) I am assuming they were made by just the one maker, I'd be very cautious around a rounded 3 EK2 which didn't have this projecting lug.

Thank you, gentlemen! I never had any doubts as to the authenticity of this cross, given the source and the "feel." I just wondered if all "round 3s" were like this. You have answered my question!
