Unusual RK paint job?

I was wondering if this is an acceptable paint-job for the core of an RK. The cross is a 'no-nonsense' example by Steihauer & Luck. The 'veining' appears on the reverse also, but to a lesser degree......

Harry-

I have two juncker crosses that have finer lines than the piece shown above. I have heard this effect described as "veining". One member had stated that this was some sureface rusting under the paint that creates that appearance. I do not know if that is accurate, as I have not seen a break in the paint that would reveal this. This looks like the same thing on your cross.

Could it be that the paint shrink when it dry/harden ?

"....There is also a rusting phenomenon that may be observed in some Iron Crosses called "veining", a series of raised canals which look like veins going across the award. These "veins" are caused by rust forming underneath the baked finished....."

Why do some crosses rust without creating these veins ?
