I'm sorry but I don't understand why anyone would want a cross in such terrible shape in their collection. I guess thats why it hasn't sold.

I think the dealer is "teasing" by saying it was found in a burnt out building suggests that it might have been you-know-who's GC. If I'm not mistaken the price was 3k +?

If I'm not mistaken - and I may be - this is the cross Detlev sold on his site about 2 months ago. The description was his.

If it is, then at CAD 6k, the price has DOUBLED since moving from Germany to the Land of the Maple!

Well ... I know very little about GC's .. but what caught my eye was the GOA from Detlev ... obviously something that Detlev liked I suppose?

I just thought it interesting. Would be nice to know what the connection is to it's history ....

Well ... nothing to be sorry about. I dont own it ... not that I'd pay more than $100 for anything in this kind of shape.

But, I dont know why someone would "chemically age" this .... if the story was found in a burnt building, I'd thrown it in a camp fire for a few hours

What is the melting point of silver compared to that of iron.....or better yet lead based solder!

I agree that the cross appears to be chemically (age) enhanced.

Melting points:

Iron 1535 deg C.

Silver 962 Deg C.

Solder +/- 500 Varies (You can seperate the silver frames with just a soldering gun, pretty low heat)

From these pictures, it appears the frame has separated in a few places ... either heat or chemicals have taken their toll ...
