    Round 3 type

    Hi everyone,
I have this round 3 and am not sure how to tell if it's a thick or thin version?
    Any thoughts?

    Thank you.
    Best,
    Callum.

      Hi Douglas,
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I do not have a good scale to weigh this. I did however measure the thickness today and it is <5mm around 4.05mm

I noted in the thread below that the thick variants are around 5mm and over, making this a thin variant then. I assume thick and thin types both used the same frame die? Core types being one of the variables and this being the slanted date?

            Callum :
Since Roberts post - or to say in the last 10 years or so a lot of minor and a few major updates/IDs have been made and grouping by major variants have slowly taken place .
The R3 EK2 is a good example : we have - Imperial frame R3 like yours - which most R3s are and then the TR frame with wider bead crown .
With the Imperial frame type we have regular core and pedestaled core and a bevelled frame .
Weight varied a bit for each maker and some crosses became lighter as the war carried on just to stretch hard to get materials .

Picture of R3 Imp frame and weights I have .
            Bevelled frame features .

                Callum,
I'm somewhat new at figuring out the details of EKs and am definitely no expert like some of these guys. But I recently got a copy of Dietrich Maerz’s and Mario Alt's latest book on the EK2 and highly recommend it if you want to dive deeper into EK2 makers and variations.

Hopefully someone here cam correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe yours is a what the book refers to as the Round 3 Thick Frame with a Slanted Date, A-Core. If I'm right, it's covered in pages 85-90 of the book.
