    2 ek2....

    Hi
A friend has these, from the same family, neiter is marked, the one on the right had a Fritz Zimmermann packet which could have originated from either cross... Can anyone take a stab at the makers?
    Thanks
    Chris

Thanks guys, I guess without makers marks they are not the sought after kind? All the best, Chris

From my perspective this is a wrong guess. EKs (1. and 2. Class) without maker marks are pre end of 1942, so they are early. The chances of such a piece being an actual award piece is also high. However, PKZ-marked pieces (post end 1942) were produced for being awarded and most of them were. But, as we know from original documentation, the stocks were high and run at roughly 25% were never awarded but rather captured or destroyed, not counting pieces in the pipeline.
Unmarked pieces are less looked after by "collectors" who want to know the maker and also think (mainly correctly) that a marked piece is less likely a fake. The collecting of unmarked pieces requires a higher level of knowledge, though.

            Hi,

thanks Dietrich, good reasoning.... and especially now that many of the EK guys can identify the makers without marks anyway!
