    Victory in Europe Day

    Remember. Mourn. Never repeat.

Today is VE Day, victory in Europe, May 8, 1945.

It is amazing how many Americans draw a blank stare today, if you say the phrase

    VE Day.

Forget about VJ Day in August, the same blank stare.

The lack of history education in this country is a sorry state.

Sad but true, I sent a message to my office group and another had to link wikipedia to what it meant.

During the Second world war, about 70,000,000 people, military and civilian, died. Can You forget it? Can this be allowed to happen again?

Americans are more familiar with their victory over Japan, not what happened in Europe, because that was decidedly a Russian victory.

I don't think that the average american, especially the younger generations, know or care about any significant dates from WW2.

              I used to teach !!!!!

The level of ignorance is staggering and not confined to the USA may I add. I really despair at what is going on.We are breeding stupid ignorant people.

Here in Belgium there was much attention for it on the news and tv programs.
Many people here still remember the end of both wars.
