What iron cross should I buy? Please Help

    Hello guys
I have found 3 Iron Crosses First class cheap and I want to ask you if they worth it the money and some details if you can

The first one is a 38 pound Iron Cross first class in which swastika can be seen partly but not that clear and without the pin in the back

The second and the third ones Iron Crosses First Class are 50 pound with the swastika clear to see and with the back pin and one with the original screw plate

Is one of them worth the money or wait for a better iron cross?

    Sorry for my bad english

Thank you for the response !
    Have a nice day

First off, welcome to the forum! May your stay here be enjoyable but more so educational.
Iron crosses are common as dirt as millions were produced. What you have shown has very little value. You need to ask yourself if this is the sort of examples you want to collect.

Agreed, buy a good one as your first EK1, then if you want to collect ground dug items you'll have a good range of examples.

Totally agree with Tony and Chet. Save and buy from the e-stand here where you will receive quality at a fair price. Not putting your possible purchases down but always nicer to look at a nice example rather than rust

I mainly like my crosses to be in good condition/mint but can also like a cross if it has a nice patina on it.

Here is a cross in my collection, not the prettiest and most valuable, but still one of my favorite cross. "MM4" stamp in the ring.

Looks as if it could do with a “good iron” Shellshock

Almost everything we collect in Third Reich stuff is mass produced memorabilia. It has no value if it is not in perfect condition or is attributed to someone important . Collecting groundug is IMO pointless exept when you find the stuff personally with the detector.

the thing is I already bought a Second Class which looks clean from a licitation site and I am waiting to arrive, thats why I want to buy a cheaper First Class because I want to have 2
But yea the 3 crosses that I have shown are terrible
Can someone give me a secure site from where I can buy another Iron Cross ? I hate so much to wait 7 days for the licitation and another 14 days to arrive
Thank you for all the responses!

                  Welcome :
                  "Hast makes waste!"
I have seen too many starting off that have been too impatient and ended up getting burned .
It takes time to get good at this collecting area .,,, and believe me - many convincing fakes out there . !!

                  Douglas

Brian : can we have a better look at your EK2 ribbons ... the top one might not be good .

I’ll do some closeups of the edges and post. Cheers

The allure of ground dug items, for me, is more in where they came from. For example, if you have family that fought in the Kurland Pocket or the Ardennes Forest, and these came from those areas, the direct connection to the history is where the value is.

If you don’t know where the item is from or the seller can’t prove where it was excavated, it’s worthless, at least to me. To be honest I don’t have any ground dug items nor do I collect them.

Also, be aware that many items like this are from soldiers graves. Fake crosses are also buried and intentionally aged to help pass them off as battlefield relics. Iron Cross from Stalingrad! Not likely, best case it’s an item from a less famous area, or it could be a fake all together that was buried in someone’s yard, then dugout for your collection.

the site from where I want to buy the 38 pound EK1 says
The medal was recovered from a field near the village of Trun which we think was a pit dug by the allies where lots of German equipment was thrown in and buried after the battle in the Falaise Pocket,Normandy in France 1944
I got some relatives who fought there
And the last 2 croses are from the same site and aparently from Stalingrad which I think its false

What Wim said is true about ground dug. Unless you found it yourself or you know the people doing the looking you can never be sure what you have. Only buy the item never trust the story ( unless it is proven beyond doubt by photos of the attributed person wearing it etc).
