Thought I would share this spange I found luckily at the SOS. At first look I thought it was properly aged and toned for a Zinc Spange. The seller was a very upfront dealer who was happy to stand behind his wares 100% so I bought it. I showed it to our own Thomas Durante who like me thought it to look good period wise but the hollow hinge pin was an anomaly. I too shared his reservations. I then proceeded to show it to Dietrich M. who gave it the thumbs up of approval and this set my mind at ease for sure as we all know he has studied Iron crosses and anything to do with them for sometime. When I arrived home I was still a little apprehensive and researched L/57 in the Iron Cross 1st Class book as well as the KVK 1st class book and bingo L/57 did in fact use hollow Brass hinge-pins.
Lesson : These books are excellent references that help all collectors with the share of knowledge within their pages, Never doubt Dietrich when it comes to Iron Cross related Products.
