    EK2 Schinkel Variants

    Hi everyone,
Recently I have wanted to increase my understanding on the Schinkel variations of EK2 designs. It has been very interesting to see the progression of arguments with some truly well-constructed research presented in many threads. For that, I am very thankful to be part of the WAF.

When searching for variations there are a lot threads to sort through to develop a larger picture representative of the current agreements. I thought it would be worth having a thread with the up-to-date consensus on the number of attributed manufacturers for future reference.

My understanding that there are 9 types known (excluding magnetic / core variations) best represented by a list posted by Trevor from a thread in 2016.

    1. CE Juncker (EK1 and EK2)
    2. Otto Schickle (EK1 and EK2)
    3. BH Mayer (EK1 and EK2)
    4. Paul Meybauer (EK1 and EK2)
    5. Wilhelm Deumer (EK1 and EK2)
    6. Straight-9 (EK1 and EK2)
    7. Unknown Maker 1 (formerly called the "intermediate") (EK2 only)
    8. Unknown Maker 2 (Assmann / S&H /Linden) (EK1 and EK2) *
    9. Unknown Maker 3 (Assmann / S&H /Linden) (EK1 and EK2) *

One that is still unclear for me is the debate pertaining to the Assmann, Linden and the Schauerte & Höhfeld Schinkel crosses.

I understand one of the unknown designs are argued to be either Assmann or Linden products. I am aware of Trevors excellent thread presenting evidence of this cross being the product of Assmann with a potential Assmann WW1 counterpart seen here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...Assmann&page=2. Although opinions still differ for some, regarding this as a Friedrich Linden piece (I'll refer to this as Number 8 on the list).

However, I cannot find much regarding number 9 on the list. Is it the slight differences in the core and frame design between two similar appearing crosses?
Below are examples of what I am talking about. The left being the argued Assmann piece (Number 8), the right being the additional piece with small differences. Is this the cross that accounts for number 9 on the list and is it more thought to be be attributed to Schauerte & Höhfeld?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For reasons of simplicity I post the three relevant pages of the upcoming book The Iron Cross 2. Class. I think it is an Assmann product. There is more in the chapter supporting this. Firthermore, Assmann was mentioned as a supplier of the EK2 as early as 16 May 1940.

        Hi Dietrich and Sanya.
Thanks for providing further insight on this topic.
So the unknown maker 2 and 3 on the list (number 8 and 9) are likely to be the product of Assmann with differences in the core dates?

        Best regards.
        Callum.

          Hí Callum
Here are a my older pictures, in the meantime I have already found the type 2 EK2 version you presented (it doesn't appear in the picture),but I yet looking for the the SB 2.nd variation.
on the pictures see that the two different EK1 types have two difference pin solution.
