RK Cases, early or late issue?

Here are photos of two inserts found in RK cases.

The first is what I beleive to be the more common 'insert' found in later cases.

The second insert I believe to be particular to early cases. Also the section holding the ribbon is larger to accomodate the 50mm wide ribbon in this type of case.

Please could you check you RK cases to see what type of insert for the RK is in your case, first or second type insert.

If you have an early issue cased RK does it have the first type of insert.

Please could you also measure the section holding the ribbon, top to bottom, is it 45mm wide or 50mm wide?

Allan, I just measured mine and out of 9 examples the most common was 50mm for the ribbon opening. The measurements ranged from 48mm to 53mm to include square and round cornered cases.

This is the case my 3/4 ring cross came in. Who knows if it is original to the cross. The well is 50mm in depth.
