            As far as my experience, they aren't exactly scarce. I would usually see one or two at the mid-size militaria shows I would go to in Germany a few years ago.

            Either way, they are certainly a nice accessory to a very common medal.

                  They are not common. The cases came in 2 sizes and 2 colors. Red was for "with swords" and "without swords" and the black case was for the Next of Kin version. Sometimes you can check under the insert and there is a folded certificate.

                  As the provided link shows there are many private purchase cases for the HC and one can make a rather nice collection out of them for a modest price.
