    I need help

Hi guys I’m in a dilemma , I have an informal AH informal pattern knife and fork that I had recently just got I paid 1800USD for them. I just got offered 1550USd for them. If I take the offer , I can finish paying off a layaway that will include the matching visor to my tunic and mini luft dagger , 4 rare stick pins and a belt and buckle for said tunic. I I know the cutlery will be worth a lot more in 20 yers but I’m just not sure, what do you guys think?

I think that you should collect because you enjoy it, not because you predict what something might be worth in 20 years.

Didn't you consider paying the 'layaway' before you bought the cutlery? You will be $250 worse off immediately if you accept $1550!

If I was you I would decide what my focus was, stick to it and live within my means.

Well that has nothing to do with the question. I am by all means not over extending myself. Just because I have items on layaway does not mean I can’t afford them. I have them on layaway because I travel quite often for work at the moment so I don’t really have a place to store all my items and I don’t want to cart them around with me everywhere I go. But now in the next month I will be settling Into a new place and so the knife and fork don’t really fit into my collection at all yet so I was curious as to wether or not it would be best to trade them off for items that will go in the direction is headed. And yes I buy to appreciate the items but I also buy stuff that will be worth something when I am older to. But it’s ok thanks for the input ! Cheers!

No probs, if you have been offered $1550 then they are probably worth more than that. I would haggle for a better price and then get rid of them.

Sorry for this late response. To my knowledge, pieces of tableware in the AH Informal Pattern are selling for about US$1,200.00 each now, and pieces in the AH Formal (State Service) Pattern are US$1,500.00 or higher each. We all hope that our collections will increase in value over the years...especially when you've been collecting for as long as I have...but that is no guarantee. If you paid US$900.00 for each piece recently, then you found a good deal, but of course it's up to you as to how much you'll sell each piece for. Personally, even though I have never collected with an eye toward reselling, I don't like the idea of LOSING MONEY either!

Hope these thoughts are helpful to you. Best of luck,

            Br. James
