Cases for Gauehrenzeichen

Dear fellow collectors,
I do not know much about the cases and since I got now a Gau Baden silver badge and a golden HJ leaders badge, I wounder if there are cases for it for display or if they even back in time came with one or if they never had any?
Did any of the Gau Ehrenzeichen come with a case? The pictures are always without one.

Hi Dirk,

I's hard to imagine that a high-ranking award such as the Gau Honor Badge would not be received in it's own presentation case! For photos of a number of these badges in their presentation cases -- including a Gau Baden Badge -- you can find these in "Gau Decorations of Hitler's Germany" by Craig Gottlieb (published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 2012).

I have not seen a presentation case for the Golden Leader's Sports Badge (though I have an example of this beautiful award myself) but I would imagine that such a case existed.

I would agree with your Br.James, but what of the later issue Thür.Gau Adlers that come in paper ? We have those early ones in their elegant cases and then the trashy paper presentations.

No question about it, Joe! The war effort even had it's effect on the firms that created those fine, elegant presentation cases! But for us as historians and collectors, I guess having one of those trashy paper pieces is unique in it's own way; it represents a 'snapshot in time' of the conditions that these awards lived under, and that has to mean something for the archives!
