I would appreciate your opinions on this rare LDO marked case for the KVK 2nd class, with maker mark on underside. This is more commonly associated with the EK2 and is the first I have encountered for the KVK2. Thanks in advance, Jeff

LDO Case for KVK 2nd class

Hi Jeff,
Well, it's genuine as far as I'm certainly concerned. These are indeed very, very seldom encountered with the KVK2 description on the underside. If I was still an avid collector of cased & packeted awards of the TR, I'd snap-up an example like this without too much consideration for the cost either!
This very style of case I term as being of the incipient LDO series and thus adorning the initial pattern of the LDO logo too. This exact case is what I deem to be a first pattern shell, and it also looks to be a type ''two'' in addition; that is in my classification only.
However, it would appear this case was extended in production through the transitional phase to the second series development also. The only difference being predominantly in the logo change - to the second patt. - and evidently that of the base covering material, too.
Kind regards,
Marcus

Exactly the one in the same case, John. The only difference being what is stated on the underside. You do find this "hard-shell" with - when in conjunction with Deumer awards - can have either the "framed" L/11 or with the above designation for either the KVK2 -/+ swords and of course the EK2, too.
I found no correlation in regards to a distinction between the "stamps" as to one being perhaps earlier than the other. Both reside on the early, transitional and hence the second series also; this shell was one of only a sparse few of the first series to have been adopted into the second series collection. So, this case isn't exactly rare in form, but the very fact it has this stamp for this particular case makes it a rather uncommon combination; with the first patt. logo.
Kind regards,
