Sorry I don't like the font, the 'out of line' printing, and the fact that I have never seen a W&L carton with the name printed on the side.

my guess is that allan wrote wrong. I mean that he tryed to let us that does not know about any unmarked W&L ...
as hank posts, KVK may be found unmarked. I own a deschler one with no problems in my opinion. but, again, I never saw an unmarked EK carton.
would be nice to get new inputs concerning this matter. not about my ek1 carton itself, but any other real UNMARKED original.

Yes I still have the above carton, and about 4 others
too and they are all indentical, all the the makers name on the side.

Hi guys,
I like this carton. It's not possible for me to make a judgment with 100% certainty without holding it in my hands, but I don't see anything that would make me overly suspicious. EK1 cartons were commonly unmarked in WWI (in fact, they all were), and we know that most traditions from that time carried over into WWII until they were changed by law. Examples of this phenomenon include crosses themselves being unmarked, crosses being manufactured in the "old" sizes, vaulted crosses, two-piece screwbacks, etc. I've seen more than a few other cartons for various TR-era awards -- including (I think) the KVK -- with no maker name on the side. For all these reasons, I am inclined to accept the possibility that we can have a carton without a maker name on it.
Finally, based on what little I know about the circumstances of the acquisition of this piece (from the veteran's family), I definitely give it the benefit of the doubt.
So I'd say that it needs a hands-on inspection from someone who really knows to confirm it 100% (Allan or Marcus could certainly tell if it's a repro by holding it; period cardboard has a different feel), but my guess is that it's a good rare piece that probably belongs together with the rest of the pieces in the set, which (after all) are all very early.Best regards,
