    EK 2 Case - Opinions

I have this cased EK 2nd class, which looks great, but I am sure it is a custom made case or it is of postwar manufacture. Your help and opinions are welcomed. Many thanks, Jeff

      Hi Jeff,

I'm never overly keen on attempting to judge these; however, all I can say at this very moment in time is that I do not personally recollect this distinctive embossed pattern of the outer covering regarding a good or bad case. There are obvious observations in regards to the sloppy covering on the formal base and an unusual aspect of the divider on a -IF- purpose made fake.

Hence, we need to fathom if it is perhaps a hybrid concoction, a fledged reproduction or perhaps of a desired period prior to 1945.

Therefore, can I request the following pictures: of the lid liner in full, the underside of the formal base and the internal base, plus that of the catch head too.

It might also be an idea to provide a link in both the '57 and Imperial forums and seek their thoughts too.

      Kind regards,

      Marcus

        More images

Thanks Marcus for the advice. The extra images are to follow.

I could not lift the base out of the case for fear of it breaking (sorry).

Happy New Year, it's just gone 12 over here.

              Jeff, thank you for those.

Is the base made of wood and is there enough length - when taught - do think in the base covering to tuck under the base? It looks too short.

              Kind regards,

              Marcus

That should be ''taut'' not ''taught''

I'll be buggered if I know with any certainty, Tom. Seeing under the base would certainly assist. But, my visceral feelings towards it overall are of a dubious inclination, yes.

                  Kind regards,

                  Marcus

Is it correct to say that the only official/correct case for a EK11 in the LDO type case?

I have a varied selection of 'private purchase' cases for the EK11 but I can't say with certainty whether any on them are period cases.

I suppose we can say that certain outlets selling replacement awards, duplicates could 'sex' them up a bit by providing a more expensive, better looking case, which we may have here.

Personally I don't doubt that this type of case. with others were produced during the TR period. I only say this based on the ones I have seen, and have in my collection. My 'instinct' tells me they are good.

                    Just my opinion.
