The runes on these cases are often a little sloppy. If they are white, the case is for a 4-year medal. Silver runes are for an 8-year medal. I don't know how well the fakes are being made, but this one looks original from the photos.

Is the grey base correct, and the insert for the suspension loop?

Runes are fine and the box might be ok, but I do not like the gray base at all....

What material would you say that is? Looks a bit 'fuzzy'.

Although I have seen red and yellow lining that is a bit more fuzzy on police awards, but nothing that matches this material. You see grey lining a lot in police cases as well, but a more refined material.

This SS case lining is what I would be more comfortable seeing: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...g+service+case But, possible to have a different style lining as well. There didn't seem to be a standard set. Also possible the lining was ripped out and this is a post war replacement.

PS. Case also posted here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...g+service+case

I saw this too and I am a bit skeptical about the grey lining - but - it's not to say that grey linings were not used as I have a seen police awards with the same type of greyish lining. I am not expert on boxes, so, I'll let others weigh-in. It's just not a 'text-book' colour/lining that I have seen many of. The box construction looks OK.
