    Medal box

    Dear Gents,
I would like to ask your help to identify this medal box, and opinions about originality. I got it from a flee-market seller for free, but I don't collect awards and medals.
Many many thanks for your hep!
    Best regards,
    immer

Don't know if it is original but certainly used for the Hindenburg cross.

Uum? An odd one indeed. It's not one of the variety I've personally seen, and as to if this case started life intentionally for the Honour Cross, I would very much doubt that.

Does the main base come out? To the rear of the case the cardboard border looks a little bowed and the line of the base felt interrupted too.

I also notice a fold crease in the ribbon, how is the ribbon attached the lid liner?

In fact, have you tried to fit an Honour Cross into the circular recess?

      Kind regards,

      Marcus

        Hi,

I think all of you are assuming that the ribbon is for the Hindenburgh cross which is causing confusion on the identification of the case.

I believe the ribbon is for the 1870-1871 Franco Prussian Campaign medal and that is what this case is for. The 1870 campaign medal is a round medal and has the exact same ribbon as the Hindenburg cross. Additionally, the case pattern is similar to pre WWI cases for medals in terms if style.

        Thoughts?
