The domed case is a D&B manufactured case, and I do believe these have their origins that emanate from an early war period of this style. However, I'm also of the notion this was an extensively produced case in this manner of form and guise for an unknown duration that I can only speculate on.
We only really find the domed cased by D&B in this guise with the full pile and covered recess.....etc. So, regardless of my ''model'' in the evolution of cases, the reality could be very, very different; and no doubt is too.
As to the other ''flat'' case, it's very likely post production of the actual incipient D&B form in its entirety, but it could even coincide with the production run of the rather specific looking D&B case further down the length of time in its production. We just don't really know.
The flat case - and by the looks a KB 621 base - with this outer covering and the very shell and the inner materials, I would estimate a liberal earlier to mid scope. It's difficult without looking at the individual case shell/covering and tracing it's other transpirations.
So, if we look at it ''face value'' wise, then the D&B would be the earlier candidate, yes.
Kind regards,
Marcus
