I am not sure when these boxes started to appear on the collector market, but quite some time ago.
I can only tell you that this type of box is not accepted by collectors as period.

Indeed, without a doubt, these are of the same ilk pertaining to the Luft ''lattice'' fake variations - not to be confused with the ''dotty'' series.
There exist several naval designated fake cases, that I'm aware of; there's even a black covered variety with silver lettering too. Odd, as this version would be more apt for the VA, KVK or EK, i.e the outer covering being a more convincing pattern type.
