    Brown LDO Case - KVK2 or EK2?

    Hi Everyone,

    Here's an early LDO case/carton, brown outer, blue inner. I believe these are typically associated with the KVK2 although as I understand it some believe the EK2 is also associated with such cases.

    As you'll see from this case, it does indeed have the imprint of what looks to be an EK2 in the liner (beading is evident, as is the suspender). I've tried a few awards for size: KVK2 with and without swords; also, an EK2 (alas not in the best of condition).

    The KVK2 with Swords doesn't fit the recess; the EK2 fits the recess, quite nicely but the ring does sit proud, although it is possible to close the lid; the KVK2 without Swords fits best of all.

    So, in closing, what do other members think belongs in the box?

    Thanks for looking.

    Best,
    Toby.

    PS All photos were taken with a flash.

          The KVK without swords, is sitting a little high in the recess in the photo below. As such, the ring protrudes more than it needs to.

              Toby,

              I have a similar brown LDO case with blue base that come with an EK11, ribbon and LDO warranty slip of paper.

              I personally think that the case can be for either award, EK11 or KVK.

                Thanks for taking the time to reply Allan.

                Yours sounds like a fine example indeed.

                Best,

                    Thanks for your reply Rene. Yes, I did try it. It does fit but it looks quite small relative to the recess. Also, there is the imprint of what looks to be an EK2 in the case, not that this is a guarantee of its intended purpose.

                    Best,
                    Toby.

                      Yes I saw the inprint of the EK. If I had seen this case without the inprint I would say that it was for a KvK II class.
                      I go for this:
                      Black EKI
                      Blue Service medal
                      Brown KvK.

                        The long service award certainly fits but is a little loose:

                          I have seen a few of similar type brown cases, with blue and red inserts, that all contained KVK IIs

                          cheers

                            Hi guys.

                            An LdO directive called "Unified Order Packaging" and dated 1.3.1941 states in part:

                            ...from 1st March 1941 restrikes of orders and medals instituted after 30 January 1933 may only be delivered for commercial sale in wrappings and packagings approved by the LdO...the symbol of the LdO is to be used on all...:

                            2. Halbetui I, black: for EK II Class;
                            3. Halbetui II, brown: for KVKII with and without swords, Police Service Decoration I and II Class, and Customs Decoration;
                            4. Halbetui III, blue: for Long Service Decoration I and II Class and Special Class, Fire Service Decoration, Honor Cross of the German Mother I, II, and III Class

                            ...
                            Best regards,

                              Graeme, Trevor, Thank you both for your input.

                              Any idea when the two different styles of LDO carton were in use, i.e. when was the first pattern phased out and the second introduced?

                              Best,
                              Toby.
