    Flight Clasp Cases

I was going through my luftwaffe clasp collection recently and in it have cased examples for the Fighter (Jager), Bomber (Kampfflieger), and Recon (Aufklarer) in bronze, silver and gold. I started thinking why I did not have any transport cases etc. So I took a look at Niemanns price guide and he does not list any case for the transport, air to ground, etc. So I answered my own question – they were not manufactured so they do not exist. But what is the reason cases were manufactured only for the fighter, bomber, and recon? Anyone know the answer to this?

(I know packets were made for other clasps - I am talking cases here)

    Hi Richard,

I have to confess I don't know why these lacked cases?

I called a mate of mine in Germany this morning who has some period articles....etc regarding these awards and touch wood he may be able to find something or anything.

In a pricelist published in January, 1945 (after LW badges again became available for private purchase), these clasps could be bought either with a packet or a case. Now whether the cases were actually specifically impressed with the "type" nomenclature, or were just generic, untitled, cases, is another question...

Indeed, as initimated by Richard there all insudry of the packets, even those catoring for the clasp with the hanger no less!

I have to say I'm clutching at straws with these clasp cases, or rather lack of for the Luft chapter in my packets & cases book.

But that's very interesting Leroy there was a choice of either a 'case' and the packet at this late stage - however, would this price list be concerning an individual maker only?

I could have sworn I'd seen an example of a designated cardboard box/carton not unlike the CCC variety. But I just can't think for the life of me and my files are at home.

I am aware of the more generic unassigned cardboard sorts that are purported to belong to these clasps, and there are also further claims these were used for the U-Boot Spangen, also. And that's another complicated story.

And then we have the untitled pattern of these hard shell cases to add into the mix. But these just beg further question as in concering the LW retail inception in combination with stipulations regarding case specific's from March '44.
