Hi Marcus, the matching kvk is late as it has the cast fittings, i believe thats the right thinking anyway, of course may have been matched up at some point to the case, wear to cross and case look like both had a rough time... the two hinges just through me
Thanks for casting your eye over it, iam in the process of purchasing it, once recieved i'll get some clear piccies taken and posted. Do you think that the hinges are the usual style, same length as if it was just one? or are they shorter than normal.... to the search button (they look a fair bit shorter to me, Whats the deal on the detailed motif, is there any known reason when this came in or was used, removed?)
It looks fine mate, not often seen actually but I don't deem it rare as such, no.
The detailed motif, well there are thoughts abound as to why, and I'll get back to you on that as I've a little something in progress regarding such.
The length of the hinges: I think generally there was a standard average of length as a matter of course (determination due to case size I would imagine), so as not to waste metal....etc. So whether a hinge has 9 or 5 barrels is of little consequence really. It's just the length they were cut at off a long strip of hinge. And the same would apply to your version or any other dual hinged case, plus or minus the odd barrel here and there.
Perhaps in the instance of your case they decided it was cheaper in the long run to have two short hinges rather than a longer one? I'm sure cost for one reason or another had a say in most things - after all, it was a business at the end of the day.
