Case: EK1 or Gold Wound Badge?

    Hi,

I bought this case as a marked BH Mayer EK1 case for $100. I now believe it to be a marked BH Mayer case for a Gold Wound Badge. Hinge, button and catch are magnetic. I do not think the insert has ever been out of the case, and I don't want to force it.

    Two quick questions:

    1) Am I correct that this is for a GWB? Or is it something else?
    2) If I sell it on eStand, is $100 a reasonable asking price?

    I appreciate your help.
    Best regards,
    Streptile

I have the same case with a EK1 in it.

That's not to say that the same case could be used for GWB or EK1 having no motif on the top of the case.

Thanks! I'm not sure how to pronounce your name, though

This one has gone to eStand with a link to this thread. I appreciate the help.

This very style in its form devoid of the cross motif would support thoughts towards a silver/gold wound badge, sure.

However, it is of course a classic latter EK1 case, and not overly common at that in this guise - a few 'variants' exist in so much as regarding catch mechanisms, lid liners......etc And although that doesn't sound very far removed from a majority of other case trait normality's, I assure these are rather special in their own distinctive way.

Such a case with this very sorts of base will be devoid of any markings/codes on the actual base pertaining to the recess, and in essence any relation to such and such award types. So don't remove the base from this case.

The recess/slit for the award you'll note isn't the bog standard KB or D&B type for a cross, or for that matter the wound badge.

What we have here is a latter punch recess, with a mind (in my opinion) to suit a wider range of awards and this can be attested to other case bases with such a recess.

I just think the intentions were short lived as indeed was the manufacture of latter to late war cases in the sense of production and distribution as in formative years of the war.

              Really great information, Marcus.

Thank you. This case has been sold to a fellow collector who posts frequently, so it is perhaps not the last we'll see of it.

              Much appreciated.
