LDO EK1 Case

Hi Eric,
A lovely incipient LDO hard shell case with the first pattern LDO logo on it of course.
These can be traced as I say to the beginings of the LDO hard shell case series as documented by pictorial evidence; around March '41 I think off the top of my head.
As for the EK motif indentation, well there all insundry of possibilities.......I'd imagine a cock-up of sorts, but it adds to the attraction of this lovely little case to my mind.

Ps the case of course was not in sole distribution to the LDO cause, it was used for issue awards as well. It's less encountered actually devoid of the LDO logo but you will find it with the odd KVK and EK motif on.Last edited by MH184; 09-05-2008, 03:22 AM.

Thanks, if anyone has an example to show of an RK LDO marked this exact way id like to see it if possible. Also would an LDO box of any grade medal mean the medal is a private purchase item, like was this cross issue or private purchase? Are there any original issue pieces ever awarded in LDO marked boxes like the IC1,anybody set me straight on this .

in essence, probably not, but some put it in doubt.
in 1941 the Leistungsgemeinschaft deutschen Ordenhersteller (LDO) "Administration of German Orders Manufacturers" was established. the LDO controlled the production of most military awards and banned purchase of awards from non-licensed manufacturers. military members were permitted to purchase duplicate or replacement awards from authorized firms.
each LDO licensed firm was assigned a number to be used when marking its awards. it has been suggested that the L/ number was for private purchase items.
