    Box good or bad

    Hi guys,

    There are some doubts about this silver wound badge box, please help me out, because I have the option to send it back for refund.

    The box looks, feels and smells old, the impression indiciates the badge has been in the box for quite some time. The badge itself is fine.

    I'm aware it's not the regular box that comes with a silver WB, but I have seen many irregular items on this site.

    I purchased the box (with badge) from thirdreichmilitaria.

    I will add some more detailed photos.

    Hi Martin,

    Like Marcus already said on the e-stand section, this case is a fake! Just look at the Ldo mark and compare it with other Ldo marks

    So send it back to the seller and get your money back!

      I don't question the available knowledge on this site, but exactly what is wrong with the LDO mark?
      Before someone says the packets are fake because of their colour: I've edited the colours of the photo to make the LDO marks stand out more clearly.....

                Hi Martin,

                First, your black woundbadge case and both packets look fine. Although I would try to get of the "german purple heart" text.

                I reworked your picture to make it more clear. Look at the space between de "d" and the "o". The fake case hasn't got the right space between them.

                      Although I still think the differences in the LDO mark are subtle. If you look at the characteristics of the lettertype, than the red box resembles the packets closer than the black WB box does.

                      The wound badge packet with "German purple heart??" written on it, came directly from the veteran that wrote it on the packet during the war, that's why I will leave it as it is, besides I would be worried about damaging the packet.

                        The other items are fine, it's only the 'red' case that is a fake.


                        John &Thomas; it's good to know at least you two guys read my 'findings', 'thoughts' and rants on packets and cases, I sometimes wonder if I should even bother for the lack of response. If somthing doesn't make too much sense let me know guys.


                        I'd be very careful these days on wooden based cases, wood is a favourite with reproduction box makers a sinlge platform or layers of wooden fibre board etc They even use it in conjuction with cardbord as well.

                        This wound badge case; this is a known fake, I've found exact examples on reproduction sellers sites and they have confirmed indeed it is fake for sake of - there's the crux, 'case closed'.

                        This case has evolved like with many fake badges, so you will find variations in a manner of this form.

                        Overall the construction is excellent, someone knew what they were doing, the paper hinge, the near match outer covering the application is although a little slap dash the coverage and cut are not a bad effort. The velour base covering is all too convincing for this dangerous fake !!!

                        The hard case version is also a very dangerous fake - I will discuss this example too - at a later date.

                        For means of identification you must observe the Ldo logo, the outer covering and base material.

                        Fortunately we have traits in fakes, one such trait in this specific series and the example we are looking at is the Ldo logo. It is similar to a genuine form but not exactly.

                        There are only to date so many variations in the Ldo log (not to be disclosed unitl compilation is complete) and in conjunction a number of examples regarding the warranty too, not applicable in this instance.

                        In this picture you can see on the top a genuine (one of) example of an Ldo log for such a case and the fake example below.

                          Thomas that's perhaps not he best example to use (post 8)as the genuine gold logo (var.1a) has the 'o' in the lettering just slightly more toward the 'D' than in other forms of course.

                          Look also at the shape and form of the lettering, the oblate spheroid shape (rugby ball shape) and notice the shape of the 'ends'

                          Come to think of it there is another form printed in EK case very similar too, but that will just confuse issue.



                          And what you must remember this is one guise of the fake LDO logo - not all gold printed fakes are of course the one in the same.
