Leibregiment, Just finished reading the section in Torpedos Los relative to the packets issued with U-Boot badges. Author Williamson stated that badges were issued wrapped in tissue paper inserted in paper packet. Later recipients could private purchase the badge with a case, however the book to this point has not shown an image of these cases. Not conclusive here so maybe someone else has this information.

                  Hi Paul/guys

I'm afraid this is a known fake case guise, they also cator for other naval awards too, sorry.

As for packets: yes, U-Boat badges came in packets; the blue one Gordon show's is one maker marked Schwerin, this pattern of packet is encountered with the HSF designation and marked for that maker also, as it is encounterered with a TDB desigantion and also several other awards in the crosses family (I own several of these versions and they are about on the forum)

This style of packet is undergoing 'date and age testing' for my minds sake for one or two reasons.

Jan Arnes packet I think is also shown, thats good as is the Deumer (Detlev's) type which was as far as I can tell for a limited duration was used with many of the Deumer combat awards of a suspected 'era' so to speak (designation and rectangular flap fold type)

The only packet thats got the generic (by association with a multitude of awardas and many many other makers - this is the basis fraktur for most packets) pattern designation is Jan Arnes, the others are 'specific' patterns of packet. A couple Orth naval awards can be found in this style of exact packet - the 'norm style'.

U-Boat badges also came in generic cardboard cartons of numerous paper cover patterns or the same same can be said that they were devoid of such and had buff coloured boxes - many of the Schwerin examples came in nice deep blue cardboard cartons.

Gordon has a limited representation only and I suspect by intention too, and what is shown should not be taken as the only granted type of packets certainly. Cases exist for the examples with diamonds of course, but there is nothing to suggest that there was any mainstream 'cases' for the U-Boat badges........to date.
