      interesting comment on the hinge.... I have a definite '57 case with 7 full and 2 half segments to its hinge. I also have an original pre-'45 case which has a flat bottom and 10 segments to its hinge...

        ...The hinges were cut from a long part, so the lenght of the hinge on a case doesn't matter to me (I have one with 11 parts). Luc's case doestn't have the " feeling " to me to be pre '45 in ANY way!
        If he offered to me for 50$ I wouldn't even consider to buy it.

          I must agree about the 'feeling', 'gut' or otherwise...these things are so convoluted sometimes we are left with the INSTINCT as opposed to rules.

          Harry, yes the hinges can be in any # and ofcourse they were 'cut' from long lengths thus the raw edges....a tough area to pin down!

            Thanks for all comments. I've send today the case back to the seller. I bought this box in december last year but was convinced that is was a good one, therefore I never showed the case to someone. After handinspection of Pieter and compared with several other boxes out of his collection it was clear that it is a early '57 case. The seller didn't make any problem at all to take the case back. I realy appreciate this !!
