    Ek2 Safety Pins?

I'm not sure where to post these, so I'll start here. These were found in my grandmothers sewing box 20 years ago. She came here in 1929. I don't know whether or not they were availiable in the US, and she made several trips to Germany shortly after the war. She was also a prolific seamstress, and her sisters were always sending her things. The pins match perfectly with the one in Iron Time. They are magnetic, and painted w/black lacquer. I have never seen a packeted ek2 w/safety pin, and was wondering if any member could post a pic. of one. Many thanks!

Once she brought back a few tinnies, which I played with and broke when I was a kid. No markings at all on the pins.

I have a number of EK11 in packets and very few have a safety pins in them, but I have seen photographs of EK11 being awarded in the field and being attached with a safety pin.

It makes sense to me to include a saftey pin in the packet for attachment.

Having said that it was common practice to just 'poke' the ribbon through the button hole wasn't it!

I can recall that some of the pins are exactly as you have posted.

However, I can also recall that there are different sizes of safety pin and some plain steel, others different styles.

When I have gotten those field converted EK1s with safety pin melded to the back of an EK2, this is the exact type of safety pin. Maybe it was the standard at the time?

              Different style pin.

I've only bought one EK that had a safety pin with it, not in a packet unfortunately and I didn't think too much of it. I assumed that the original owner had put it there or it had been added later. It didn't occur to me that it may have been issued with a pin. It looks as though they belong together as the ribbon bears other pinholes and is indented with the impression and patina from the pin.
Its a different style to those posted already.

I have seen lots of photos the WAF that show troops wearing medals attached to there breast pocket with a safety pin. Ost medals, KvKs and Africa medals. Could they have all been issued with pins? Or were packets of pins issued for award ceremonies?

I have a number of EK11 in packets with black safety pins, and other types of safety pin also.
