I have my doubts about this one.

Looks like it has been tampered with, doctored to me.

Is that a post-it sticker in the base!!! Sure looks like it.

Not too keen on the LDO logo too.

Odd one this ? The base looks to be original, the cardboard part of it - the case itself I'm less inclined to state as pre 1945 !!!!!

We posted around the same time Pilchy, uuumm me too, a dubious one this and ''messed'' with by the looks as you say.

The catch is 101% post war and likely to have been made in the last decade at least.

I tend to agree with all the comments. . . The underside of the insert threw me for a loop because it appeared to be genuine. . .

Do any wartime case glow under a blacklight or should they all be nuetral like photos and most cloth?

Thanks and I will be returning the item. . .

Do any war time cases glow ?

To get straight to the point on this one, no certainly not that I'm aware of that I'd personally consider genuine as made for the period of the war.

Of course you get '57 (very very early) sorts made up of genuine war time case parts and more modern materials of the era they were constructed - but these are few and far between, this isn't one though !

It's one of the oldest tricks in the book as case ''messing'' goes, and there are some fake cases that are constructed so well that if they a popped a genuine base in.........well, perish the thought eh ! Then the bad base goes in the good box and oh deary me.

There are some intersting threads on some forums on whether the black light test is definitive.

I think the general consensus is that its not, it sends out a warning, but there are reasons why a period article could glow under the black light test.

Very interesting and thank you for the time and answers. . .

I tend to rely on the black light test as a beginning, the other is reading, learning and trying to get a wide varied exposure to authentic AND fake items. This is the most difficult thing to do...

But I do believe once you hold authentic items you can learn the ins and outs.... but that is hard to do...
I will have to read the threads on the blacklight test... I had heard that if a period item is washed in modern day detergent, that will cause an item to glow... (Not that people will be washing their cases.. )

But thanks, I was able to return the item...

Forgeries have been going on for years, the way to combat that is to study study study and ask the experts....

                            Once again thanks...
