bh mayer spange case / carton comparison

as promised, i am posting the pics of the case / carton of the bh mayer ek1 spanges that finally arrived. due to the sort of on the fence that we are in regards to the cartons, i contacted gordon williamson and he has agreed to share his thoughts. as soon as i hear from him ill share the information with you guys.

first thing i noticed is the difference of size, material in the outside, the lining, and the lid markings. hope this opens a discussion in which all could learn something.

One is the proper spange size case (i.e intented for use of) the other the 'EK' size (dimensions) case (just the shells for a multitude of awards were used in many instances, the larger case may be a 622 KB base)

Can we see the catches too JP.

for your records the dimesions are smaller: length = 65.39; Width = 67.14
                larger: length = 70.25; Width = 73.35.

gordon williamson replied to the enquiry in regards to the carton, and here are this thoughs:

"...more than one firm would have made this rectangular button type case ( although they are unusual for EK1s, for the Spange it is the standard style, not just for Mayer pieces but for most makers so I'd expect to see slight variances)

...the same applies to the style of lettering on the carton, people mostly associate this with Mayer cartons, but whoever made the cartons provided them to several firms. It may even have been a font style offered by different carton printers. There is in Harald Geisslers book a pic of an identical style carton printed with the name of E Schmidh******228;ussler of Pforzheim."

Gordon is more so correct yes difficult for me to elaborate on the theme as such, both look genuine to me in addtion though.

Like Gordon notes this association with Mayor is difficult to get across as not sole and break this notion

                  Time to eat, back later.
