David, the glow on the white card surrounding the black insert is a giveaway. On my case, nothing glows.....

The cross was subsequently sold as a post-war 1939 pattern by S&L, but I kept the case!
Sure an interesting case! Maybe the original owner can drop in and tell us why he thinks the case is original.

        Hello

As I said earlier, I have always considered this to be a 57 case, albeit judging by the quality of it, one of the very early ones.

As yours doesn't glow at all, I'll be interested in hearing the verdict on it.

        Regards
        David

          David,
Your case is still a very nice case, and of a much better quality than seen normally with early '57 crosses.

Again, I wasn't looking for opinions on whether this case is pre- or post-war, but was opening up a discussion on the possibility of pre- and post-war parts combined to make cases post-war. Afterall, we see post-war 1957 pattern awards of all sorts made with wartime parts....

            Hello

Thanks Harry. Have you seen the debate on the DK case? If not it's a similar thread to this, except the item is a halbetui type case for a DKiG:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=182476

In DonCs thread there is a link to earlier debate on these halbetui cases by Albert, in which there is discussion as to whether this is a 57 case using wartime parts, (that there are wartime parts used in Alberts case is clearly shown in the other thread), or if it is indeed a wartime made and issued case. Sadly no real conclusion has yet been reached, but it's interesting.

            Regards
            David
