EK1 Case

Yesterday I looked at a cased iron cross first class at a militaria fair. On inspection of the case I noticed that the iron cross motif on the obverse was off centre and askew. My question is: is this possibly a manufacturing defect or should it be treated as suspect? Also, if it is a manufacturing error is this possibly a frequent defect on EK1 cases?

Very common to find genuine cases with the cross motif askew.

However, good and bad can have these trait's, so either way it's not a tell tale sign.

Don't often see the EK motif askew, but as Marcus said, it happens.

As always, it would be nice to see a photo!!

Thanks for your comments, but unfortunately I do not have a picture. Another unusual attribute I noticed was that there was no impression of the face of the iron cross on the lining of the lid of the case. Most cased versions I have seen tend to have this impression, or maybe again this is possibly a common feature with these cases. Maybe this is a replacement case?

It depnds on the lid liner, the base type and the cross fitted into the case (case to an extent with a combination of the above), be it original to the case or the cross 'married' to the case at some time.

Another six of one half a dozen of the other sign.....yet again fake's as do original counterparts have impressions in the liner as they do not too.
