Paper packet Westwall medal

I haven't seen much items about the Paper bags in which some awards where presented. Like the large blue one for the Iron Cross 2 and the little brown bags for example the Ostmedaille and Westwall medal.

Because they can be easely copied, I'd like to hear how you can recognise fake ones. So, experts, here's the first one:



Both are bags for the Westwall medaille, both from the same company. But are they real?
I hope to here some good opinions.

Eh... obviously. But I didn't know on what to search, so I typed 'bag' and that doesn't give the right results... 'packet' does.

Thanx for the link to the thread about the paper bag mystery, which still remains a mystery.
I think it is easy to copy paper packets and it raises the value of the corresponding medal, just like a certificate does.

As for the West Wall packets, well at the end of the day I can present findings but ultimately you must decide want you think or wish to believe.




Fakes of packets range form excellent to very poor and those inbetween too.

We're getting there all of us together that contribute on this forum bit by bit day by day, but indeed they are getting better at these fakes and the cases, cartons, boxes etc It is becoming more difficult judgement wise certainly from pic's alone.

Ja, bedankt voor de bloemen.

An easy solution (not 100% reliable) to recognise real or fake packets: smell it. If it smells fresh, it's fake. If it smells musty (old), it's probably original (or an old fake).

Easy and fundamental with too many flaws in all honesty. If you feel it works for you, then I wish you the very best of luck.

If I may, I'll give this advice do not to rely on such methods as smell, feel and black light.

In part granted maybe, as it's a contribution of things you need to assess.

I'd look at the print, gauge and even the weight, texture to a degree the cut of the folds and flap just for a start.

There's no half measures or easy solution, knowledge attained and advice from others and certainly exposure to many and numerous examples.

I wish there was an easy way, but there's not.
