What do you think of these boxes for sale on ebay? They look to be the same size and the lettering looks the same.

I have seen this type of box years ago that panzer badges came in. However, they were all unmarked. I am very suspicious of these marked examples appearing recently...Tom

This type of carton/box has been discussed before and Marcus has more information on them.

I think that some cartons/box's of this 'type' are regarded as OK.

          One for Marcus,

These types above have been certainly discussed before and they are nothing but modern fakes with the what I call the scrawl pattern designations on.

Very thick cardboard for anyones liking these, where they've been scribed to bend into shape the box you can see an disproportional 'gap ridge' rather than a fine subtle look about it.

You do get the odd genuine type of box similar (as much as to say in concept {function of lid off lid portion}, shape and similar size) to this with a designation on and the one 'boxes' too with proper printed desigantions too.

The unmarked PAB boxes, if talking of one in the same, they were okay. Thin cardboard, stapled sorts ?

Be on the look out for these types as posted, for the GAB, IAB, PAB and a smaller one piece sorts for the wound badge !

It's good coverage to over these again and again, we can never remind people enough of these and others

Sorry to short and sweet, I have to nip off in a minute or two. Here are a couple genuine sorts I have to show at the moment. Please psot your examples by all means.

I mentioned a one peice box, this is one, imagine it smaller and then also for second a fold over lid on a longer side of the oblong shape too.

Note you can see the thiness of this box, look where scribe cut lines are and the gauge of the cardboard too.

This is the larger size of three type of the generic produced cardboard box........other forms exist of type though. This is one thats more or less the most encountered and common though for an example.

Slightly smaller one, the second or mid size box. you'll note this is a different cardboard and deemed earlier perhaps as the crap quality is better than the poor crapper quality associated with latter purported boxes.

I'm being informally quick here and rather unscientific I'm afraid.......I'm in a rush.

Here's the type 2 box for the unmarked it seems Luft GAB.......well in so far as unmarked genuine minty examples come in these and I have no contention with this designation.

Note on the above pic this is thicker cardboard (genuine) and the layer structure and the parting of the layers through and wear & tear. This should not be mistaken for the thicker fakes were looking into these.

Besides on the fakes look for a white sort of frosting patina over the cardboard, once observed you can spot it a mile off and you'll recognise traits of certain fakes via more modern materials. Of course a small cardboard box made in 1957 for some brass tacks, you could easily pop in a war badge and say it came from good source.......and who would know any different ! Not me.

So with these boxes I've viewed, own, observed detailed pic's sent to me etc and I've been able to catagorise traits and make up, cardboard specific's to the staples (dimensions etc, even to some extent awards out of interest) It's all observation and no expert feat, just time and fortunate guidance I do have in paper materials.

When unusaul ones pop up, they are difficult to asses via the internet. here we are talking in a provincial guide form of the basic frequently encountered patterns of boxes. Think of them as cases, view them like it and the more you will see the same sorts and get a feel for them. Keep it simple.
