    LDO Box for what??

    Hi Guys
Any idea what this box was for? Looks to be for a Political or other non military award or badge ETC: Thanks in advance!

          Hi David,

Well that looks like a 'home made' slit perhaps, the period of when it was done I've no idea as it's non convential.

Perhaps it was done to encompass the pin on a mini Mothers Cross as these boxes are encountered with them most of the time and marked up on the inderside in an ink stamp for them and the Ldo number of the maker.

Also, wound badges too. They are more commonly found in the rectangular ones though, again both can be marked as above or not.....makrings on either or, is 50/50.

It could have been 'adapted' for some other badge/award of sorts at some time, and for that I've really no idea I'm afraid.

How about a cut out to take a piece of ribbon?

I am with Marcus, a home made slit for a mother's cross with pin.

Do you see the faint outline of an oval shape impressed in the base, under the slit, or is it me

It is NOT a homemade or afterthought slit. I have the same box with the same slit. It fits the pin of a miniature Mothers Cross perfectly, which is what I have in mine. It could also be used for other ribboned miniature medals I suppose...Tom

                    Hi guys
Thanks for all of the input,I too thought I saw a inprint in the box. But It does look like the mothers cross would fit just right. It will be on estand later.

It's not by any means very conventional as these boxes go, I've seen many of them and I confess this is a first for me. Normally when there's an intentional void it's stamped out or has lines for the cut/stamp out.

Very interesting, so does this ramped base lift out ? What did they support it with ?

This example still looks it was done with a sharp knife, I think it's an enhancement/adaption either way when ever it was done..perhaps it was the fashion to do this sometimes. I was unaware of it, now I'm not, another 'variation,' in a sense then.

                      Good little thread

Is there anything supporting the up end you can make out ?

It looks like it has a flap folded over and glued ( flap)(part of the insert)
