    Luftwaffe Badge Cases - Evolution

Hi guys. I'm expecting a treat in the mail soon (I hope ). I have got to thinking (yes ... the wife would be impressed ) and was wondering if someone had a series of pictures of LW Badge cases that would span the evolution from Early to Late War construction.

I have seen the mid to late war types with the cheap looking hard paper with two holes and a slot. Some of the early ones were constructed of a flocking of some type (hard material?) that had a slot but dressed up a little more elegantly.

What were the very early ones made like? Did they actually have velvet inner-lay where the badge was set? I have seen some pictures but never held one in hand.

    Thanks.

    Hi Darrell,

I believe this type is one of the earliest, it came with an early Juncker airgunner.

    Kind regards,
    Giel

      Thanks Giel,

Is the bottom a velvet sort of material? Or hard flocking?

        Hi Darrel,

Is that your Juncker Aux on your avatar ? Anyway back to business, Ivan has done a good article in the Asso Memb's pages on a progressive evolution of the boxes for a guide.

As to whats earlier etc, theres alot of 'collector opinion' on this gauge and thought, I've my own thoughts which are a little more liberal in span than these pre war, early war etc dead set notion's as such.

But yes, the above case prescribes to earlier version (wartime in my estimation perhaps) for arguments sake

                Hi Darrell,

Yes, the inner part comes out, it's a KB box.
                Kind regards,
                Giel

I reckon these are late Rene, but not 'whole sale', I think these were more cardboard boxes for the maker only with 'no name' as such.

Pretty much like the CCC carton, specific to one maker alone more than whole sale generic cartons, or it's perhaps that they're late they never got to circulate as much maybe, I don't know, just a gut feeling on these sorts with designations on ?
