And here's the inside. I think this is the first case I've had where it's got the pre-formed depression for the cross, as opposed to the cut out with cloth/felt glued to the base of the case.Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

You can put a little piece of tape in the inside behind the crack, that might keep that beautiful name together

Yeah, I'm with Allan on this. Adhesive tapes and glues could 'soak' through at some time or enviroment. It could be fixed by a book and paper restorer proffessional to a degree, but then you'll always have the contention it was fixed should you sell it ever etc.
I've a couple of tatty ones, and I leave them alone.......at least that way they are original.
One way, I was told by a paper guy in a museum for a quick fix and reversal solution should that be desired with no damage effect is to use a cut up postage stamp behind the tear or rip (Not the self stick ones but the ones in the days you licked or just wet.....our issue stamps here in the UK now are pre sticky applied ones)
Thus with a little bit of steam (careful, softly softly) directed you can slip the 'mend' off at any time in the future. Not to be used on low grade paper or thinner paper though or anything to be framed.
They use there own methods for those sorts of things.
I'd leave it alone, but you have an option of one method....it's up to you whether you do it or not.

you could try to find a plexi-glass case for it that meets the specs for it put a piece of foam in the inside and slide it down in the case it would have to be a very tight fit though, (this would help on preventing any more tearing of the caseComment
