URGENT HELP! Kuban, Krim, Demjansk, 2x Narvik + plaque- Thanks!

    Hi all,

I was recently offered these campaign shields and will likely be purchasing these in 3-4 hours- unfortunately I don't have my books on me and although they look good I am always cautious with shields. There is a Demjansk, two narviks, a Kuban and a Krim shield- any additional help or info is greatly appreciated!

There is also a Hitler plaque with them, no idea if that is real or not but it is of not much interest.

    Thanks again guys!

    Hello there,

Sorry, but I would pass on these. IMO all of the shields shown are fakes.

    Best regards,

      Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for your help! You saved me from a potentially terrible purchase Are newer, better fakes still coming on the market or are the same ones still surfacing?

      Thanks!!

        Hello,

Newer and better quality fakes are being made all the time. However, the ones in this thread have all been around for several decades. The Demjansk Shield is known as the "serif-J" and/or "moving prop" fake. The Kuban Shield is a very well known fake. It is made of brass and has been chemically aged in attempt to make it look old. It somewhat resembles an original Kuban Shield design, although many of the details are off. Originals of this type were stamped from iron, never from brass. In fact, there are no original Kuban Shields by any manufacturer that were made of brass. Both Narvik Shields appear to be the same exact type of fake, known as the "low 4" or "small 4" fake. These two fakes are based on an original type of Narvik Shield, but many of the small details are different. The Krim Shield looks closest in design to the type that was manufactured by Josef Feix Söhne, but the details do not match exactly and the detail looks too soft. This Krim Shield looks to be made of brass and originals were struck from iron or zinc, never from brass.

        Best regards,
        Tom
