    Afrika cufftitle for review

Hi. Could you tell me, if this Afrika cufftitle is an original?
This cufftitle has some kind of glue in the edges of the backside. If this is an original, is this glued by the maker or privat?
    Thank you and best regards

Where's the beef ? sorry could not resist

The Ct is a fine original. The bits of glue are probably post war. Likely the Ct was glued to an award/display or a photo album possibly. The glue is part of the Ct's history now and would leave it as is.

Gentlemen, I'm probably just paranoid, but I'm not so sure we aren't getting our first look at the next generation of super fakes here.

It is completely devoid of wear and age, which usually tells me to look closer.

Look at the first two pictures. There is glue only inside the area folded over and sewn with the edge Russa braid. I don't see how that can be from being in a scrap book. It must be from the manufacturing process, which is unusual.

Now notice how far the Russa braid is sewn from the edge of the cuff title and compare to known originals. And there seems to be zero wear to this 75 year old folded edge. Again, this is unusual.

The uneven horizontal cuts on the reverse where the unfinished cuff titles were cut apart and the lack of stitched cut lines at the ends do not bother me. At least in the pictures, the camel hair cloth looks right and the embroidery is convincing, even though I was not able to match it up exactly in several reference books.

I hope I'm wrong, and this is just an uncommon variation.

I can make better detail pictures, if needed.

                Hi Al

No problem being paranoid when it comes to tr items. But this Afrika ct is a one-look original. The lack of wear is common on almost everyone of these Afrika ct's. Though the glue is a puzzle ?

The Afrika Ct was not worn by anyone until mid/late '43 well after Afrika had fallen to the Allies. Very few of these ct's were ever worn by the solders, many were unissued as well. Of the thousands issued very few were actually attached to a European tunic and of course an Afrika Ct would be very rare on a tropical tunic.

Not so with the Afrikakorps ct which saw frequent use during the war.
