Ground dug Lappland..and i found it this time

Finally, after nearly 20 years of searching i found my own Lappland. It comes from a former LW airfield and was likely produced for a Flak unit.

The shield is in great condition due to the metal used, which is heavy and not practical at all for a shield that was supposed to be worn on a uniform.

It's clear by the design that it's related to the 'press' found last year in the same area by someone i know, though now it would seem it was a botched shield and not a press.

    Monumental find Simon!
Seems like you gave it a caress with your shovel. I hate it when that happens!
You should write an article about these in the Journal of Conflict Archaeology.

Yes, i did still, i'm not going to complain too much.

You're right, i really should publish something, i'm sitting on a lot of new and unpublished information about the Lappland shield.

                    Simon,
Please don't publish it until I buy one to go with my award document grouping! I'd like to get one before the prices go up after your book comes up. Of course, that would imply that I'm going to get off my lazy tail and dig the grouping out of the box it's stored in.

On second thought, I may need to wait for your book so I can be sure to find the right shield to match the location/unit of my recipient.

Thanks, it's understandable this ended up in the Russian archives as Schirmbacher was investigated for war crimes against Soviet POWs

This thing is the largest variant i've seen, quite impractical and weighs in at a hefty 118g, just look at the size compared to other variants.
