    Krim Shield Opinions

After a recent Floch Shield purchase, I began looking at the other shield in my collection. I know this one has some damage, but I was going to try and trade up for a Krim shield in better shape. Before I even attempt that, could I have some opinions?

      Hello,

I am sorry to say that your Krimschild is another fake by Johannes Floch.

      Best regards,
      Tom

Thank you, Tom. What is the main sign I should have looked for? I was suspicious by the city indentation at the bottom left. Is that correct? I'm still unsure of the coastline to look out for.

There are many subtle differences between this fake and the scarce original type that the Floch fake is based on. Most notably, the absence of a notch in the coastline, directly below the wreath on the fake. Also, IMO, the base metal on your Krim Shield is wrong and it has been artificially aged. Looks like a chemical substance was deliberately dripped on the shield in attempt to make it look old.

          Best regards,
          Tom

            Also check the following thread:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=435024

Post #1 shows a Floch fake, just like yours, and post #2 shows the original type that the Floch fake was based on. If you compare the two side-by-side you will notice all sorts of differences in the details. Notice the notch in the coastline, directly below the wreath, on the original. That notch is absent on the Floch fake. Also notice that the fake shows the same kind of artificial aging from a chemical that was deliberately dripped on several places of the shield. Natural aging will never look so blatantly deliberate.

            Best regards,
            Tom

Great explanation by Tom with good comparison picture.
However this fake shield is not made by Floch. Floch did indeed produced a copy of the Krim shield but of a different type.

                        Hi Pascal,

Thanks for the correction about this particular type of fake Krimschild. I have always heard this type referred to as the Floch fake. So I don't confuse the issue in the future, could you please post a picture of the Floch fake Krimschild?

                        Thank you & best regards,
                        Tom

                          Hi Tom,

I'll post the Floch fake and a comparing picture of the Floch fake with the original on which the Floch fake is based.

Thank you, Pascal. Sorry for the mix up.
