    Black Afrika Cuff for opinions

    Hi Guys

I recently bought this black Afrika cuff at a antique fair. It was cheap so I took a chance on it although it did not look like other black AK cufftitles I have seen posted on the forum or like the one in my collection.

I like the base material, general wear and the embroidery threads. It's definitely got age to it and the material is not synthetic. It also has what appears to be spots of dried glue on the back. What stood out to me though was the sloppy way the letters were embroided onto the wool base and it is unlike anything I have seen before. I like it more than I don't though. I would like to get some comments on it and if anyone knows of a similar one posted please share the info.

Barry, great family portriat. The black looks believable for predating the official blue. J

          Hi Barry

Wow ! 140 looks, but just one positive reply from J. Time to speakup then. As we spoke before on this ct it has alot going for it. Material, construction, obvious wear, all lead me to agree that its an early LW ct. Also the lettering isn't quite up to later standards of both the LW & Herr versions as your other great examples demonstrate. Probably was attached to a photo album at some point (per the glue)

          Would hold onto it

          cheers
          Tim

Guess I'm going to be the one to piss on the parade and say I don't like it. For me the cuff material seems way off, the lettering and lack of connecting thread...... its just not hitting the points I would expect. That said, its just an opinion and as long as your happy with it then enjoy it.

Unfortunately I have to join and say I don´t like it either for the reasons Matt mentioned. The lettering looks just horrible and really unprofessionally done, the letters don´t even have the same size...! Just compare the A´s to one another!

                Hi Gents

Thanks for all the replies. I knew from the get-go this one would get mixed reviews so I appreciate all the comments so far. This one falls outside the standard or norm and with some items will always take a leap of faith but like I said already I still like it more than I don't.

Hi Barry, materials look correct, look because I think in a hand inspection they could be close to some very well made fakes, furthermore there are other really odd points on this CT. I would like to see it in my hands, but it is closer to some fakes than to any original I have ever seen. On the book about CTs I'm finishing you will see some of them.
As variant I have to say is not what I would to see.

                  My books:

                  - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
                  - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

                  and more!
