They were not made to be worn. They are just a remembrance item.

I got mine from the daughter of a vet at a hotel buy. It was in an ammo box along with some breast eagles and buckles. The woman thought it was a piece of junk and gave it to us.

It is a really good question that I would like to know my self since I only collect kriegsmarine and küstenartillerie. For many, many years, the post-war made tirpitz honor pin that was made as a remembrance pin for the veterans or as a replacement pin for the lost honor pin, was consider the real deal. It still is for many people today. So, is this truly a war-made shield or is it post-war made? If it is a war-made shield, what is the proof? As we all learn when we start collecting is that one should never buy the story, so I hope there is real evidence that these shields wore made during the war and that it is not just a story that is the evidence.
