War time, or post war repair - to prove not probably.

Please read my post as I fully agree "This is IMO however a repair and I do agree that this type of backplate is unknown to be supplied together with the shield by the manufacturer."

If it is difficult to determine if the backplate of the shield I posted is period or not don't you think the same applies to the shield which started this thread?

I'm just saying about your Cholm , and a thread Cholm too - back plate, prongs are NOT original ! War time or post war .... Not important !
