    Demjansk Real or Fake?

Hi: I am new to this board and I have a Demjansk shield I need help with. I need to know if this is a real or fake. Any assistance would be appreciated. I've looked at the other threads on this board and cannot reliably ascertain that it is one way or the other. Thanks in advance.

        Hi DallasH,

bad picture to make a judgement but even with that pic I would say fake. From what I can see:

        -eagle´s head wrong
-eagle´s wings are a bit too large at the bottom, because the angle that is formed by the top of the wooden bunker and the wing is a bit too large, angle has to be smaller.
-for my taste, the oakleaves of the wreath are a bit too pronounced (3D) and not detailed enough
-I think I can make out a serife on the "J" which I personally avoid.

        Cheers, Frank H.

Hello DallasH, I have to agree with Frank. In addition there appears to be too much cloth on the sides of the shield. The cloth backing should not be this large. In addition the swastika appears very well centered and complete. The majority (but by no means all) shields appear to have the tip of the lower arm of the swastika actually touching or partially obscured by the wreath.

Yes, Thanks. When I got this thing in yesteday, I sent it right back. In addition to everyone's great comments, the cloth appeared to be like a hardened felt, the paper was way too thick (not the flemsy stuff, I've been lead to believe).

I really appreciate this board. It has helped verify the other badges I have. Here recently I haven't collected many badges and stuff lately except a DRL badge here and an SA badge there because the quantity of fakes and difficulty to id. Most of my latest stuff are easier to trust identification. Tank scopes, panzer tracks, deactivated ammunition, etc.

                  Dear Frank,

to me, the length of the tail of the 9 does not seem wrong. But as I said and Richard elaborated even more, there are so many things wrong with this shield that meet the eye more easily, I didn´t even consider looking at the 9.
My original does have a nine tail of that approx. length.

Here is a pic for DallasH for the next purchase if he wants to pursue that special award.

                  Cheers, Frank

                    Demjansk sheild

                    Hi Guys:
I don't collect sheilds or badges...but are they anything like daggers or bayonets being made by different makers?
What I mean is did different makers make there badges or shields a little different from one another...or were they all made identicaly the same?
                    Thanks

                      Hi G.J.B.,

Sure there are different makers with variations, but - there are general rules and things to look for in a good Demjansk shield. And there are things like the ones described above that make a shield like that not a good one.

                      Cheers, Frank H.
