I have seen this type before and IMO this is not an original shield.
The only zinc Cholm I would consider is the type with the 4 prongs.

Thanks for the help kraut and Pascal. Looking at the construction, details and the patina I thought this one was worth giving a shot here
        Kind regards,

I can only agree that a zinc shield with 3 prongs is very suspicious and should be considered not wartime.
Do you have some close ups Giel?

The shield will probably arrive monday in the shop for inspection. I will make some close ups!

                Hi guys

Today I received the shield to examine and I think I will have to agree with what's already been said. Compared to the small photos I have of a zink shield, the details on the real deal are far more outspoken. Nevertheless these are very well made. Can anyone post big scans of the 4 prongs zink shield?

Here are some close ups of this one.

If this one is a fake, I can't imagine how they could fake the patina...this patina is indicitive of much time and age IMO.9even looks like it was tunic removed , or would the nay sayers think that a faker would make it look like they had stitched it ? If few zinc versions are known, how can one say three prongs is incorrect?

                        Hi Juoneen,

Well that was my first thought too. For me the 3 or 4 prong thing doesn't make much sense. The only thing that makes a lot of sense is if we could see this piece is copied from the real deal.

Someone of this forum is going to provide me with big scans of an original zink shield. I hope to find some conclusions there before writing this one off as a copy.
                        Kind regards,
                        Giel

Giel, I don't have good scans of my shield, but I compared it close with some I have in my DB and I have to say I retreat my first statement and I believe this Cholm is an original wartime piece. All the die flaws are the same of the well known originals, I would have no problems to put it in my collection.

The 3 prongs are not a believable give away, as we know there are shields with 3 or 4 prongs, it depends only from when the shield was made. Canstruction, material, details are IMO good.

I think, its not a zinc ! You can check it via magnetic. Some "points" - show iron metall ! Zinc version - have some different design .
                              Rebuild - 100% ( prongs, back plate , cloth, paper ).
